The villa today
Sunset Villa VI — formerly known to many guests as Heavenly Villa — is a warm boutique three-bedroom villa above Cruz Bay, built around a 220° view of the western St. John shore and Pillsbury Sound.
Purchased in 2011
The original villa was purchased in February 2011, and had years of great success welcoming families and groups to St. John in the home built on this site in 1976.
Hurricane Irma — 2017
On September 6, 2017, Hurricane Irma destroyed the original 1976 villa. Like much of St. John, what came next was a long, careful rebuild.
Rebuilt, 2018 – 2020
Construction began in October 2018 and was completed in January 2020. Stronghouse Construction rebuilt the villa with 8-inch walls and 6-inch slabs — a substantial home built to withstand whatever weather the Caribbean brings next.
The Upper Deck Restaurant
Long before the villa, this site was home to the Upper Deck Restaurant, known for sunset dinners, casual lunches, and the same incredible view — until Hurricane Hugo destroyed it in 1989. The new villa is a quiet continuation of that tradition: sunset evenings on the deck, long dinners, and the same sky.
A new chapter
Sunset Villa is here for what it was built for — sunset dinners, family trips, and the kind of slow St. John memories guests come back for.
